Ever since I decided to adopt a more frugal lifestyle I have effectively banned myself from buying physical books, telling myself that any good book can be borrowed from the library. This past week all of that has gone out of the window as I decided that what good is a bookshelf if it's empty?
During the Boxing Day Sales I visited a UK discount book shop called The Works and I picked up four fabulous books for the cost of a full price one. Bargain! The chronicles of Oz 3-5 were part of an amazing 3 for £5 offer that I could not turn down. They are just the most beautiful editions and I have always wanted to complete the Oz series after reading all about the wonderful wizard when I was little.
On top of this, I also purchased a copy of City of Bones for £2.99! I have heard a lot of hype about these books from the BookTubing community and I know that a massive movie franchise has already begun so I thought I might as well jump on this YA fic bandwagon before my teen years qualify for a 'Once upon a time' introduction.
My second outing had me perusing through the 'sale' section at 'Stones which basically consisted of a few shelves in a corner. With this in mind I didn't anticipate being able to find much and so I was amazed when I stumbled upon a few copies of Mccleen's The Land of Decoration. The story seems to be reminiscent of Lewis Carrol's Alice in Wonderland with a dash of Dorothy and Oz thrown in. At least that's what I gleaned from the blurb and is why I eventually decided to buy it. This book ended up being an even better bargain than I had imagined because it was only £3 and I had more than enough points on my loyalty card to walk away with it for basically nothing.
This trip into town also saw me returning to The Works and this time they had added more clearance stock. Now, I love fairytales and all their re-imaginings and so when I saw the two Jackson Pearce novels I just had to have them. They were both in the 3 for £5 offer that I'd taken advantage of earlier that week, but sadly I couldn't find a third book that I really wanted to read. Luckily my partner spotted a Walking Dead novel that he wanted so I thought I'd buy him a little gift.
